I am an Australian-born Asian and I have never even set foot in America; yet I have kept tabs on this election more than any other in my entire life - including any within my own country - primarily due to the few Americans I have befriended online becoming suddenly and overwhelmingly patriotic. I am relieved that the election is over, as the constant political talk was beginning to get on my nerves, but I am genuinely happy that Obama won, and hopeful for what this means for America. The following is a short entry cross-posted to my LiveJournal, just stating my thoughts on the matter.

Congratulations, Obama!
Here's to a new America; God willing, the years of intolerance, warmongering and governmental lies might finally come to an end. I am sickened by how hateful some people can be - about your skin colour, your religion, or simply you - and I pray that in the days to come, as you deal with the worst financial crisis America has seen for decades, the global administrative mess that the last president left behind, and the hatred of racist people everywhere, you will find the strength, love and compassion that you will need to keep going.
God's blessings on you, and your country.
